Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Eleanor Marie Schell daughter of Henry and Katherine (Kammerzel) Melcher was born July 3, 1918 at Schrag.
She went to county grade school and worked on the farm with her brother and sister doing chores and cooking.
Eleanor married Carl John Schell August 29, 1937 at Menno Lutheran Church.
They farmed west of Ritzville for a number of years and then moved east of Ritzville where they purchased a farm in 1953 and farmed until Carl retired in 1972. Their son Jerry and his wife Nancy took over the operation of the family farm.
She loved gardening, doing hobbies, bowling, and fishing. Most of all she loved her family and cooking for them.
Something very special was when granddaughter Stephanie and Brandn called at the last minute to ask what’s for dinner grandma! Eleanor enjoyed that very much.
She was baptized and confirmed into Lutheran faith, a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of Ritzville and the women’s circle group of quilting queens.
Surviving is her son Jerry and wife Nancy of Sprague, and Eleanor’s three granddaughters Kelly Ross and Tim of Kent, Carmen Allen and Lonnie of Sprague, and Stephanie White and Brandn of Ritzville; four great grandchildren Brianna Red and husband Sean of Spokane, Chauntel White of Bellingham, Taylor White of Spokane, and BJ White of Sprague; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville.
