ORANGE OUT

ORANGE OUT. The entire staff and student population at the Washtucna School District gathered together on Feb. 16 dressed in orange as a sign of support for local teacher Janet Camp, who is currently battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Camp has undergone two rounds of chemotherapy, and while she is away receiving treatments, school staff and students continue to send cards and messages to her, including a card signed by every student and staff member (pictured top left). The Washtucna Schools also hosted their own Leukemia Awareness Week from Feb. 12-16. During the week, individuals could purchase an orange bracelet for $1, with the proceeds benefitting the Leukemia Research Foundation. Students were encouraged to wear their bracelets throughout the week in honor of Camp and her battle against cancer. Cash donations to the Leukemia Research Foundation were also made through the school. The entire event was sponsored by the Washtucna Associated Student Body and they collectively decided to make Friday “Orange Out Day” in recognition of Camp. -Journal photo by Katelin Davidson
