Lady T-cats sweep the competition, prep for Districts

The Lady Tigercats had two back-to-back days of competition during the previous week, resulting in two league victories for the team.

After a postponement of the original match, the LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus team faced Prescott on Oct. 11. Head Coach Sandy Martin said, as predicted, it was a rough night for the team.

The Lady Tigercats battled but Prescott pushed the match to five sets. The LWK team were able to maintain their composure and earned the win: 25-20, 28-26, 21-25, 25-16, 15-6.

Martin said Prescott is a tough team to play, as they are scrappy and unpredictable. The Lady Tigercats had to remain focused and keep up the intensity, and it ultimately helped them to earn the win.

The Lady Tigercats had a strong performance in serving, with 93 percent of the team’s serves landing on the mark. The LWK team also had solid defense, allowing them to start plays with a strong pass.

Martin said the team had 15 collective aces, which made it hard to say why it took the team five sets to win. The Lady Tigercats had multiple unforced errors and failed to cover the court, which attributed to the two set loss.

Alynn Harder had a strong performance for the team, going 20 for 20 from the serving stripe with three aces, and also racking up 18 assists.

Jazzmyn Gordon continued to lead the team with great passing, and recorded 13 digs. She also was a force for the Lady Tigercats on offense, earning three aces and 20 kills.

The team hosted Waitsburg on Oct. 12, and earned a quick win: 25-21, 25-16, 25-17. The Lady Tigercats played as a cohesive team, and communicated efficiently throughout the match.

Martin said Waitsburg struggled with their serve receive and setting up their hitters, allowing the LWK team with more opportunities to set up a play.

The Lady Tigercats limited their amount of errors, and focused on placing hits, instead of just hitting hard.

Harder continued to serve as a leader of the team in the setter position, Martin said. She works hard and covers the floor well in order to help set up her teammates. She ended the night with 18 assists.

Autumn Meyer served 26-27 and recorded one ace, along with 10 kills and nine digs. Gordon racked up 18 kills and one block.

The Lady Tigercats are continuing to focus on the basics, as well as working individually to develop and strengthen techniques, Martin said. The team has been working on passing from tough serves, as well as fine-tuning defensive positions.
