The Broncos boys and girls cross country teams finished their regular season in the District 7 1B/2B race at Kettle Falls on Oct. 10.
Rose Melville finished in fourth place in the girls’ 5,000 meters varsity race with a time of 21 minutes and 45 seconds. Although it was not Rose Melville’s best performance, Head Coach Liz Melville said the athlete ran a respectable race and felt she overtrained before the event.
Mya Lynch returned from injury and finished the race with a personal record of 35:29.92, improving her time by almost 10 minutes.
Coach Melville said the Kettle Falls race was a great opportunity for Lynch to compete in one last event before the end of the season.
In the boys’ 5,000-meter varsity race, Parker Cappel led the Broncos in his first varsity race with a time of 26:03.09. Coach Melville said Cappel spent most of the season dealing with injuries.
Ethan Hughes finished in 34:38.42, a new personal record, while Erik Hughes clocked in at 38:00.21.
No team scores were recorded for the Broncos due to a lack of eligible runners.
Rose Melville competed in the Wildcat Invitational on Oct. 14 and won the girls’ 5,000-meter varsity race in 20:51.81, a new personal record.
Hannah Brittain and Rose Melville will compete in the District 7 Championships in Harrington on Oct. 21. Coach Melville said Brittain missed the Kettle Falls race and Wildcat Invitational because of illness.
