John F. Imler was born on Dec. 23, 1933, to Reuben and Marguerite Imler in Wilbur. He died on June 26 in Tacoma.
John attended school in Endicott and Ritzville. He enlisted in the Navy in the early 1950s and was a corpsman. Upon returning, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired.
After that he went back to school and received his high school diploma, Bachelors and Masters of Education degrees. He taught school in Medical Lake, Benton City and Franklin Pierce districts.
When he retired from his career as a special educator he went on to build houses and deliver papers to his beloved Vashon Island.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Marguerite Imler, his sister Mary Imler Bryant and his aunt Helen Lesnett.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita Grams Imler, his daughter and her partner Becky Imler and Mike Wells, his son Danny Imler, his grandson and wife Chad and Jessica Imler, and his granddaughter Corie Imler.
At John’s request, no service was held. A private family celebration of his life was held in July when he was laid to rest in the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
