Roland C. Hintze

Roland Hintze, 89, died Sept. 19 at Pine Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Spokane.

He was born Feb. 12, 1928, to his parents Christian and Lina (Bimmerviecks) Hintze who immigrated from Germany in 1923.

He was preceded in death by a sister Gisela Hintze, parents, stepfather George Gudem, daughter Karen Hintze and wife Ruth Hintze.

He is survived by his by two daughters, Julie (Jim) Sparks and Cathy (John) Strohmaier, four grandchildren, Nessa (Reuel) Dillon, Nicole (Doug) Oliver, Tanya (Kurtis) Starkel, and Kyle (Raena) Strohmaier, 17 great grandchildren and his brother, Ralph (Devee) Hintze.

Roland Hintze was an Ag Teacher for a few years prior to his 32-year career as a County Extension Agent through WSU, with the majority of these years serving in Adams and Lincoln counties and serving his last five years as the Chairman of Spokane County Cooperative Extension.

He loved his job at Extension; and after retiring, he worked part time as a Crop Adjuster.

He was an easy-going, busy man who was active in numerous organizations over the years.

While living in Spokane he was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Rotary International, Ag Bureau, Inland Northwest Wildlife Council, American Red Cross and Hunters Education.

Service will be Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 4320 S. Conklin St. in Spokane.

Memorials may be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or to WSU College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Resource Sciences: Alumni and Development, P.O. Box 646228, Pullman WA 99164-6228.

Memorials in honor of Roland Hintze through WSU will benefit the Lincoln and Adams County Extension agricultural extension programs or agricultural research within these counties.
