Five new full-time teachers joined the ranks of Lind-Ritzville Cooperative Schools this year.
Charlie Moffet, Kate Gantz and Morgan Walker currently teach at Ritzville Grade School. Allyssa Barnett joined the staff at Lind Elementary School and Christina Heater was hired at Lind-Ritzville Middle School.
Christina Heater teaches sixth-grade and seventh-grade math classes, and Algebra. Heater, who grew up in the Tri-Cities, attended Columbia Basin College in Pasco where she received her associate’s degree. She later acquired her teaching degree from Cascade College in Portland.
Heater became a teacher because she loves working with children and enjoys seeing the “light bulb turn on” when they understand a math problem.
Heater was a substitute in Vancouver, Colville and Coeur d’Alene Christian School where she taught math, science and music. After she and her family moved to Ritzville, Heater learned Lind-Ritzville Cooperative Schools was in need of substitute teachers. She was a substitute for a year and a half for Lind-Ritzville before she was hired as a full-time math teacher.
This year, Heater wants to focus on implementing technology into her classroom and having her students work in groups. She is looking forward to helping her students succeed, as well as being more involved in the community.
In her free time, Heater enjoys gardening, spending time with her children and visiting family and friends. She lives at home with her husband, three children and two cats.
