Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887

Agnes Sanchez

On July 16, our “Big Nana” Agnes Sanchez died at East Adams Rural Healthcare in Ritzville, after suffering from a stroke one-week prior.

Agnes was born on May 9, 1929, in Folsom, New Mexico, to Rosendo and Lucia Trujillo and was raised with 12 other siblings.

Agnes married Joe C. Sanchez and together they had seven children: four girls and three boys.

Joe and Agnes relocated to Washington state and lived in Othello for many years before settling in Washtucna.

Agnes worked very hard her entire life, in potato plants as well as a farm worker.

During her time off work and into retirement she enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, gardening and cooking for her large family.

Agnes lost her daughter Joeann when she was young and had two small children of her own, so those children were raised by Agnes, as well as a third generation of siblings that grew up with Big Nana.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Joe C. Sanchez, sons Joe and Mike Sanchez, daughters Joeann Sanchez and Mary Granado, granddaughter Margaret Juanes, and great-granddaughter Josephine Juanes.

Agnes is survived by her children Vera Sanchez of Pasco, Judy (Juan) Rocha of Moses Lake, and Larry Sanchez, and two grandchildren Agnes Sanchez of Kahlotus and Jimmy Sanchez.

Also her four great-grandchildren Anthony Sanchez of Kennewick, Stephanie Sanchez of Ritzville, Vanessa Sanchez of Spokane and Rachel Sanchez of Kahlotus.

Big Nana had many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved very much but are far to numerous to list.

Our Grandma Agnes moved into the Life Care Center of Ritzville in November 2011.

The family would like to thank the amazing care staff there that loved her as much as we did, that made her years there comfortable and happy.

Her last months were spent at Rose Garden Estates, there she had a very wonderful friend/caregiver. Agnes had a very special place in her heart for Ofelia and our family would like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being there for Agnes and making her transition easier.

Big Nana will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Services were held Wednesday, July 26, at the St. Agnes Church in Ritzville at 11 a.m. with burial at the Washtucna Pioneer Cemetery following.
