Lind community members can escape the summer heat with a refreshing beverage when they stop at Kindra’s Coffee Bar.
Family owned and operated, Kindra Haase manages the local shop.
Haase said they hope the coffee shop will bring a fun and positive environment to the town for community members to gather and enjoy their favorite drinks.
Born and raised in Lind, Haase said she has witnessed the closures of many businesses in the area. The now empty buildings hold memories of her childhood when she would walk around the town with her siblings.
The family wanted to open a business in town for community members to hang out as well as draw visitors from the highway, she explained.
With coffee shops and espresso stands becoming more popular nationwide, Haase said they decided to open the business and provide refreshing beverages for community members to enjoy.
Haase stated they hope the location of the coffee shop will bring community members to the downtown district.
Haase had previous coffee experience being a barista at Starbucks. She enjoyed customer service, working with people and the fast paced aspect of the coffee industry, she explained.
Bringing a coffee shop to Lind provides community members with a place to visit with friends or start the day with a refreshing beverage, she added.
Haase said she first thought about opening a business in Lind when she had children. She wanted a place where her kids and young relatives could gain work experience and be involved, she explained.
She said they chose the location because of its size. She recognized the potential of the building, and liked how manageable the space is.
The family began renovations to the building last summer, and also made cosmetic improvements.
The coffee shop contains pieces of history from former Lind businesses, such as a candy display case from “The Golden Grain”.
Haase said she remembers pressing her face against the glass of the case to have a better look at the novelty candies displayed inside.
She wanted to preserve the memory from her childhood by having the piece in the coffee shop and filling it with novelty candy for kids.
Haase said one of her favorite aspects of Lind is the history and the old-fashioned feel. Having antique pieces of furniture and preserving some of the building’s original features is one way she believes they can maintain the historic town feel.
Currently the business only utilizes the front half of the building. Haase said they have plans to include a seating or lounging area, but they wanted to start small and eventually make additions.
In hopes of becoming a popular place for community gatherings, Haase said they would also like to be able to host small events at the business for children and families to attend.
Haase said community members have expressed their support for the business by donating items to be used in the coffee shop and spreading the word about the opening.
Kindra’s Coffee Bar officially opened on June 20. Since the opening, Haase said the business has received positive feedback from customers.
The current hours of operation are from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Haase said she is open to suggestions from community members on hours.
Locals can offer their suggestions by contacting Haase at the business Facebook page. She also recommended community members to follow the page to be informed on hour changes, closures and new menu items.
Haase said they have used social media to their advantage for promoting the business, as well as receiving suggestions from people on flavors and beverages.
Customers have a wide selection of flavors, sizes and beverages to choose from when they visit the coffee shop.
The coffee shop offers regular espresso drinks such as Americano, mochas and lattes. The available sizes include 12-ounce, 16-ounce or 24-ounce drinks.
Along with espresso drinks, the coffee shop also offers Italian sodas, which range from $3 to $10 depending on the size and type of beverage. Customers have the option to add flavors to the drink, as well as Red Bull and Zipfizz.
The shop also sells chocolate milk, hot chocolate and a variety of hot teas.
Haase requests customers give input on their experience and drinks. If a customer is not satisfied with their beverage, she asked they request it be remade to ensure an enjoyable experience.
The coffee shop also has a variety of unique merchandise available for purchase.
The selection of products includes belts made from seatbelts, handbags, jewelry and accessories.
Haase credits her success of opening the business to the support of her parents.
She said they taught her how to be independent and work hard for what she wanted. She expressed her appreciation for their assistance in the remodeling and opening of the business.
“Without the strong foundation that they set me up with, I wouldn’t be able to make this dream become a reality,” stated Haase.
Kindra’s Coffee Bar is located at 107 North I Street and can be reached by messaging the business’ Facebook page.
