The Washtucna Historical Museum and Community Center board members hosted a Mexican fiesta-themed fundraising event on May 26 to raise money for upcoming projects.
Individuals traveled from neighboring communities to attend the event, and join in an evening of fun and support for the local nonprofit.
The WHMCC also received a $1,500 donation from the Northwest Farm Credit Rural Communities grant program.
A Northwest Farm Credit representative presented the donation to the board members and voiced the company’s desire to support local programs, like the improving of the community center.
The board members for WHMCC are Lloyd Stoess, Karin Clinesmith, Lee Ann Blankenship, Kriss Bottino and Michelle Plumb.
Stoess explained the future plans for the community center include hosting game nights, beginning in the fall or winter.
The night began with music by JJ Dion from Post Falls and allowed the attendees with an opportunity to browse the silent auction tables. The festivities continued with a Mexican food buffet, followed by entertaining cowboy poetry by Ron Tebow.
Jerry Snyder took center stage to serve as auctioneer for the evening and assist with the live auction. The live auction alone raised $1,325.
The highest selling auction items of the evening were a weekend at a beachfront property in Blaine, Washington, at a bed and breakfast, which sold for $260. A handmade blanket chest, made by Brett Blankenship, sold for $225.
Roy Clinesmith purchased the third highest selling item of the night; a portable fence energizer for $125. A trip for two on a Leavenworth rafting tour sold for $105.
Throughout the evening, a raffle drawing for door prizes was conducted, with attendees receiving prizes donated by area businesses.
Bud Green was the recipient of the highest priced door prize: a Hells Canyon tour throughout the Lewiston area, valued at $242.
The WHMCC board plans to host another fundraising event next year to support the continuation of projects at the facilities. The Musuem is located at 287 SW Main Street.
