CHAMPIONS

CHAMPIONS. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos tennis team earned the League Champion and District Champion titles after having a successful season on the court. The team members who battled to earn the champion titles are (back row, from left) Katheran Gingrich, Head Coach Lorrie Swanger, Megan Buriak, Head Coach Liz Melville, Rose Melville and Claire Kessler. Front row: Kikyo Sahashi and Emily Boutain. In the first day of the District Tournament, Sahashi and Boutain defeated the top ranked No. 1 doubles team after a grueling three-hour match. The hard fought win moved them on to the finals and helped lead the Lady Broncos to earn the District title. Rose Melville also moved into the finals by continuing her run to remain undefeated this season. Buriak won two matches during the first day of Districts and lost one, needing only one more win to move to Regionals. In doubles, Gingrich and Kessler also won two matches and lost one, but faced some of the top competitiors after their teammates unseated the top ranked team. The Broncos boys’ team did not compete at Districts, as they all competed at the State FFA Convention. -Photo submitted by Liz Melville
