The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus Tigercats went on the road to face Davenport on the tennis courts on March 29.
The Tigercats’ No. 1 girls doubles team of Serenity Davis and Kiernan Hartwell competed in the first match of the day.
They lost to the Davenport team 0-6, 0-6, but Tigercats Head Coach Staci Gloyn said they had their strongest performance yet this season.
On the court, Gloyn said the Tigercats duo communicated well and showed they are learning each other’s strengths.
Gloyn added she was impressed how well the two athletes supported and encouraged each other during the match.
The No. 1 doubles team of Derek McKeen and Garrett Correll earned a win, due to the Davenport team having to forfeit.
Aarron Phelps competed in the No. 1 singles position, and won the first set 6-4.
Gloyn said in the second set, Phelps trailed his opponent 3-4 when the match was called due to weather.
No. 2 singles player Sean Roby had a similar experience to his teammate, as he won his first set 8-6 but did not finish the second set because of weather.
The Tigercats move on to face St. George’s on Tuesday, April 18.
The Tigercats return home to Washtucna to host matches on April 22 and April 25 against Kettle Falls and Odessa-Harrington.
With only three matches remaining until the Inland Empire Tournament, the athletes are focused on improvement and being strong competitors.
The No. 1 boys’ doubles team is focused on continuing their undefeated season, in hopes of advancing into Districts and then qualifying for the Regional Tournament later this season.
