LRS golf team has success at first league match

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague golf team focused on the basic fundamentals of the game as they hosted St. George’s, Northwest Christian, Kettle Falls and Inchelium at the Ritzville Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday, March 14, for the first league match of the season.

The team is at full contingency this year, allowing them to have complete boys and girls teams. The match consisted of nine holes and 35 par.

The Broncos who participated in the match for the girls team were Tessa Jantz, Ellie Gering, Morgan Lane, Aaliyah Yaeger, Brinley Moore and Aleycia Hamilton.

Maddy Christiansen of St. George’s was the medalist of the girls with a score of 41.

Jantz received a 49 and tied with Taylor Mitchell of St. George’s for the second position while Gering shot a 61.

Yaeger earned a score of 63 and Lane trailed closely behind with 64. The girls’ earned a team score of 304.

Michael Shields, Devin Schafer, Morgan Brausen and Spencer Gering made up the boys team.

Shields was the boys’ medalist with a score of 43 and Brausen followed with the score 51.

Gering shot a 56 and Schafer earned a score of 63.

Head Coach Nick Weishaar said the team competed well for the first match of the season and they will strive towards improvement in upcoming practices.

With many new players on the team, he said they will focus on the basic fundamentals in practice, but the league match made him excited about the natural talent on the team.

The Broncos competed in a league match on March 21 in Harrington. They will host a league match on Tuesday, March 28, at 2 p.m.
