Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
In the Jan. 19 edition of The Journal, the article regarding the closure of East Adams Care Center had multiple sentences needing clarification.
The Adams County Hospital District No. 2 submitted the application to the state for the potential conversion of EACC into a wing of the hospital in July 2016.
Following the submission of the application, the facility could no longer admit residents until a decision was completed by the state.
Chairman Eric Walker stated during the meeting that an average of the months prior to the application, an estimated loss at the facility would have been $1.4 million, if the commissioners made the decision to keep the facility operational.
In the article, it stated EACC had recorded a loss of $1.4 million, which is incorrect.
Walker also presented that while the Life Care Centers of America operated the facility, they only recorded one year of positive revenue.
The one-year positive revenue was based on the three years of data they received from Life Care, not the entire operational history of the facility.
The amount of beds currently available for EACC residents are seven or eight at the hospital, while the remainder of the beds are for acute care patients.
The hospital is licensed for 20 beds.
Also at the meeting, CEO/CFO Gary Bostrom stated that while there was a choice to close the facility and not accommodate the residents, the District did not want to pursue that option.
The District wanted to accommodate any resident interested in relocating to the hospital, while being able to absorb a portion of the EACC staff.
