Being grateful in the year ahead

If you are reading this article, then you have made it to another year. The year 2016 is notable for the seemingly high number of celebrity deaths that occurred.

Some have adopted a superstitious view that the year of 2016 was somehow cursed. The fact is all of humanity is indeed “cursed” with mortality. It’s not the year, but our limited time on earth that we should be aware of.

In our all-to-brief lives, we sometimes take for granted our family, friends, and good health. It is when we begin to lose all three of these that we become aware of our mortality.

Perhaps we may think of missed opportunities, lost chances, regrets, and what each of us could have done different. You need not begin this new year with regrets.

A new year doesn’t have to begin with resolutions that will not be kept anyway. Instead, you can begin with an attitude of gratitude.

The New Testament warns us that we don’t know what happens tomorrow. Our lives are like a vapor that appears for a short time, then passes away.

God in His mercy has allowed you to live another day. Share your gratitude with others in the new year.
