Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
A century ago Teddy Roosevelt proclaimed that people who came to America and wanted to become citizens must be fluent in the use of English. He had a strong belief that language is what binds a country together.
The fight for having English as our official language became more serious in 1968. La Raza, an organization that wants us to be multi-lingual who is backed by the blue party, was formed that year.
Finally, a Hawaiian senator organized U.S. English in 1983. They presented Congress with a resolution in 1996. A poll was taken to see if they had enough votes. The House had more than enough votes, but the Senate was short three votes. Washington’s two senators were no votes.
This would be an ideal time to try to get this passed as the red party controls both houses and the White House.
Do you think as I do that having English as our official language would save a lot of money and solve a lot of problems with immigration?
Congress needs to know how we feel about this, so we must stand up for what is best for America!
