Turkey Trot draws 70 participants

A large number of participants converged in front of the Ritz Theatre on Thanksgiving morning for the 29th annual Turkey Trot.

An estimated 70 participated, most walking and talking in the spirit of good visiting.

The Fastest Bird award was collected by True Baker. Baker of Sammamish had many family members following as the Moore family collected the Greatest Brood Award.

The thirteen family members include Callie Moore, a founding member of the Turkey Trot, Callie’s son-in-law Lance Baker and sons True, Steele and Brix; son Bob and Brandy Moore, and their children Brinley, Baylor, Bridger, and Baxter; son Brady Moore with daughter Presley Obrien.

Trotter from Afar was awarded to Stephany Steinberger Anderson of North Dakota who participated with her brother Shaun Steinberger.

The Great Feather award went to Megan Melcher, who sported a colorful feathered turkey hat. Joining her with similar hats were Stephanie Stokoe, her brother Hayden and Megan’s mother Angela, all part of the David Steinmetz family of participants.

The Great Fowl award went to Ryan Haase of Lacey, who stood tall among participants.

The youngest participant was two-year-old Kyla Whitney who barely edged out Austin Kragt, age two and a half.

The Silver Feather Award was awarded to Sally Powers. She participated with her husband Dave and their son John of Newcastle and daughter Christine of Boise.
