Callant joins LR Middle School staff

Currently residing in Cheney, Shannon Callant is the new English Language Arts teacher at the Lind-Ritzville Middle School.

Callant grew up in Spokane Valley before attending Eastern Washington University (EWU) to pursue a career in education. In 2011, she graduated from EWU with a degree in reading education.

Aside from education, theater is her passion, stated Callant. She has been involved with many theater productions and competed with several comedic improvisation teams, she added.

When she is not displaying her talents on stage, she enjoys outdoor activities such as water skiing and whitewater rafting with her husband of five years, Grant Callant.

Working in small towns is an experience Callant said she really enjoys. She appreciates the loving and welcoming atmosphere Lind and Ritzville provide.

Callant explained she is looking forward to working in a middle school setting and building relationships with the students and families. She understands the importance of relationship building to be successful in instructing a classroom and establishing trust between students and their teacher.

Callant expressed her excitement for having the opportunity to teach literature at a more advanced level than she has in the past.

This year, she wants her focus to be investing in the students and familiarizing herself with the community.

She is anticipating improving on her teaching abilities and growing professionally.
