The Lady Broncos had a bittersweet week with a win on Thursday in Rosalia and a loss during a non-league game in Kittitas on Saturday.
On Sept. 22 the Lady Broncos took on Tekoa-Rosalia in Rosalia. The team claimed victory with a 3-0 win with the scores, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23.
As a result of the close scores, Head Coach Cari Galbreath and attendees of the match were sitting on the edge of their seats until the end. Tessa Jantz led the game in kills with 10 with Rachel Schell behind her with four.
The Lady Broncos showcased their serving abilities during the match and Lacey Miller, Tessa Jantz, and Ellie Gering served 100 percent of their serves in bounds.
Rachel Schell displayed precision in her serving and claimed the most aces resulting in six by the end of the match.
Miller also led the match in assists with seven.
The team fought hard in their match and Galbreath said the ending scores were a little too close for comfort.
The Lady Broncos did not remain at the top of their game throughout the entire match and seemed to play at their opponent’s level, which resulted in the match being more challenging than expected.
Galbreath said the Lady Broncos were successful in their passing game and had some good rallies during the match.
Jantz played a great game and led the match in blocks with five and also in digs with two.
The Lady Broncos remained confident in their game which led them to victory at the end of the match, said Galbreath.
She said the team would practice maintaining their level of play throughout the match to avoid sinking down to their opponent’s level, which is why the scores were so close.
On Sept. 24, the Lady Broncos traveled to Kittitas for a non-league match. The team had a difficult time maintaining their confidence after losing the first set to Kittitas with a score of 20-25.
After starting the match strong, Galbreath said the team became discouraged after making a mistake and lose confidence, which cost them the loss of the next two sets.
The scores from the second set were 16-25 and the third set 15-25.
Despite their loss, the Lady Broncos remained consistent in their serving and Kierstin Witt, Emma Aldrich, Miller and Gering served 100 percent of their serves in bounds.
Schell had the greatest amount of aces with two.
Galbreath said they made a lot of hitting errors during the match and could not seem to finish. The team’s hitting remained inconsistent and proved to be their reason for defeat with a hitting percentage of 0.058.
Jantz led the match in kills with seven with Peyton Curtis and Schell behind her with three each.
Defensively the Lady Broncos remained strong in their abilities to block their opponent’s hits and aggressive in keeping the ball in play, said Galbreath.
Aldrich remained in a defensive game mentality and claimed the most blocks with three.
Tessa O’Brien proved to be determined to not let her opponents score by diving on the ground and leading the match in digs with eight. Jantz trailed close behind her with seven digs during the match.
Overall, Galbreath said the team played as six individual units opposed to one.
They will continue to practice on the “we not me” mentality in order to improve their teamwork skills and confidence.
Community members can support the Lady Broncos at their home game on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Gilson Gymnasium.
While cheering for the team, members can also show their support for those who have been affected by cancer.
The match is dedicated to the victims, survivors and family members who have been touched by the disease.
