The community of Lind is reeling after a heartbreaking mishap claimed the life of eight-year-old Cole Melcher on Aug. 24. The accident occurred near Wahl Road, just north of Lind.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), Ritzville EMS and ACSO deputies received the call about the farming accident at 2 p.m. The initial call stated the boy had been run over by a tractor.
Adams County dispatchers worked to provide CPR instructions for the boy’s father, but Melcher died at the scene of the incident.
The ACSO report stated Melcher went to visit his father in the tractor, but lost his footing while climbing into the cab. The tractor continued to move, and Melcher suffered severe head injuries.
A funeral was held at the Zion Emanuel Lutheran Church in Odessa on Aug. 27.
