Liberty procures role as LRHS principal

A new yet familiar face will be walking the Lind-Ritzville High School hallways this upcoming school year. Ronanda Liberty has received the position of the new high school principal.

Liberty has a son and a daughter both in high school. Her husband has been a Language Arts teacher in Pasco for the past eight years. Together, they share a love for teaching and inspiring students to be their best.

Before her involvement in education, she worked in retail and managed a keys and engraving shop in Spokane. Liberty said she always had an interest for teaching and education, due to many leadership opportunities she received in the past.

Before moving to Ritzville, she lived in Connell. During the process of moving to Ritzville, she received her teaching certificate for elementary education to pursue her love for teaching.

Liberty lived in Ritzville for 14 years and fell in love with the little town. While living in Ritzville, she stilled worked in Connell as a Secondary Reading instructor. She also received her Master’s in literacy for kindergarten through 12th grade.

Liberty and her family then left Ritzville to move to Alaska where she taught a class of fourth through eighth grade students and her husband received a principal position for the school. Feeling homesick, the family decided to move back to their beloved town of Ritzville.

Liberty then received her administrator certificate and received an offer for a position as the principal for the Grand Coulee Dam’s middle school and high school. She thrived at this position for three years before the position for the Lind-Ritzville High School principal opened up.

This will be the first time the Ritzville School District will have two principals instead of one. Liberty saw this rare opportunity and jumped at it. She said she is excited to work at the school due to the fact that she has lived here so long and this is where she feels comfortable.

Liberty said she sees this opportunity as a fresh start. Even though she is familiar with the Ritzville area, she is new to the school district, which allows her to come in with “fresh eyes”.

For Liberty, she said she would have been comfortable being the principal for any age group, however she is excited to be at the high school due to the opportunity she has to work with students in their last few years before adulthood. She said she is inspired by student leaders and wants to help prepare them for life after high school.

Liberty said her goals for the school includes expanding the school’s resources and connecting the students with relevant learning and opportunities they need. Overall, she said the school district is doing a fantastic job and she looks forward to being apart of such a great group of people.

As the school year progresses, Liberty said she will have more ideas for the school once she is able to see what improvements might need to be made first hand.

As of right now, Liberty knows she wants to make sure the school is serving the needs of all the students when it comes to their curriculum.

She realizes every student has his or her own learning styles and needs. Liberty said she will work hard to ensure those needs are met and her students have every opportunity possible to succeed.

Leadership is an important quality to Liberty as she feels increasing students leadership capacity is something she hopes to bring to the table in her new position. She plans to do this by improving instruction and performance in the school the best she can.

Liberty stated, “An administrator doesn’t cause change, they influence change.”

Liberty said she is excited to see what this upcoming school year will bring. All eyes will be on her to see what positive improvements she will make to the school. The people of Ritzville are excited to see all she has to offer to the young adults of this town.

She can be contacted at [email protected] or at 659-1720.
