Tommi Sue Swannack, a junior at Sprague High School, has earned a position on the Washington National High School rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gillette, Wyoming.
On July 17-23, Swannack will compete at the 68th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the breakaway roping, goat tying and light rifle competitions.
Featuring more than 1,650 contestants from 43 states, five Canadian Provinces and Australia, the NHSFR is the world’s largest rodeo.
In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, contestants will also be competing for more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named the NHSFR World Champion.
Swannack won double state championship titles during the Washington State High School Rodeo Finals on May 28-30.
She earned the titles in breakaway roping and goat tying, claiming prizes, buckles and saddles. She also finished as reserve champion in the light rifle competition.
This will be Swannack’s third time qualifying for NHSFR.
Last summer, Swannack placed fifth in the nation in the goat tying event to win cash, a buckle and a college scholarship.
Swannack is the daughter of Tom and Holly Swannack of Sprague.
