Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos brought home the hardware on May 28 at the conclusion of the two-day State Championship Meet.
The LRS boy’s team finished in 11th place with 22 points, while the girls placed 14th with 16.5 points.
On May 27, the Broncos competed in preliminary races to qualify for the second day of competition.
All of the field events occurred the following day and only consisted of the finals for each event.
Senior Alan Field concluded his track career with a second place finish in the 200-meter race.
Field also brought home a fourth place medal in the 100-meter race, and a second place finish as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team.
The Broncos’ second place finishing 4x100 relay team consisted of Jack Anderson, Mason Brausen, Peyton Kiel and Field.
Both Brausen and Anderson are sophomores, while Kiel and Field are seniors and competed in their final high school sporting event.
In addition to the relay, Kiel also competed in pole vault. He earned a ninth place finish in State with a vault of 11-00”.
Field also finished eighth in long jump, with a leap of 20-09.75”.
Both of the Bronco women’s relays finished fourth at the State Meet. The Broncos competed in both the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays.
Rachel Schell brought home one individual medal in addition to the relay teams.
She finished fifth in the 100 with a 13.07 time.
For the girls, Felicia Ziemer competed in the prelims for the opportunity to run the following day in the 800-meter. She placed 11th during prelims.
While Ziemer did not continue on in her individual event, she brought home two medals as a member of the Broncos’ relay teams, as did Holly Nygren.
Seniors Samantha Asmussen and Dinah Gadberry each brought home a medal for their leg in a relay.
Rounding out the competitiors for the Broncos were Sierra Kiel and Kallie Harder.
Freshman Kiel placed sixth in the state in high jump. Harder placed eighth in the discus.
