At the State Golf Tournament on May 24 at MeadowWood Golf Course, both Tessa Jantz and Michael Shields fell just short of qualifying for the second day of the tournament.
The two Lind-Ritzville/Sprague athletes represented the Broncos in the first round of the tournament, with both athletes missing qualifying for the second round by three strokes.
Shields recorded an 88 in Round No. 1 of the tournament, while Jantz scored 99 in the first round.
Head Coach Nick Weishaar said both Broncos played fairly well on the front nine and were in a position to finish strong to qualify for the second day.
Unfortunately, both athletes had multiple boogies on a few holes, which took them out of the running for competing in the second round, Weishaar said.
“The good thing is that they are both juniors and should improve over the summer and be ready for a very successful tournament next year,” Weishaar said. “I am proud of both of them for making the state tournament.”
