Structure fire destroys house in Ritzville

The Ritzville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, to find a house on Second Avenue and Adams Street fully engulfed in flames. The family had evacuated the home, but the Ritzville Fire Chief Bill Banner reported the fire claimed the lives of four dogs.

From the station, firefighters already working on a truck could see a plume of smoke emanating from the vicinity and quickly realized the extent of the fire when dispatch toned out. The department responded with 12 firefighters in the city’s engine and ladder truck, and the county rescue unit.
