Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
I read a letter last week from a Ritzville family intending to vote for the school district bonds for the kids. The family will dig deep for the kids. I am with that family.
A question, however, has to be asked whether the children of Ritzville will be better served by the additional burden of millions of dollars of debt. Will the bond actually improve the lives of Ritzville children? Or is it possible the financial burden upon Ritzville families will make the lives of our children more difficult?
Ritzville parents and other Ritzville taxpayers are obligated to pay many millions of dollars for a number of projects over the next 20 years. How many millions of dollars are the citizens of this city with a steadily declining population currently obligated to pay?
I will vote to support the children of Ritzville. I will vote to help parents keep their current income so as to feed their children, provide medical and dental care for their children even, perhaps, birthday presents. I also intend to help the grandparents of those children. Some grandparents are on Social Security or other retirement which does not protect them against inflation.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am not and have not been an employee of any local school district.
Barry Boyer, Ritzville
