Jeanette A. (Sitton) Nave

Jeanette A. (Sitton) Nave was born to John Ray Sitton Sr. and Edith (Wagoner) Sitton on Nov. 26, 1928, in Spokane and died on Jan. 10.

She grew up on the family farm in Washtucna where she was more at home on a horse than in the house cooking and cleaning, which was expected of girls in that era.

Jeanette graduated from Washtucna High School in 1946 and went on to attend Eastern Washington College of Education. She graduated in 1950 with a degree in Education. She taught kindergarten for three years in Spokane before she came back to Washtucna to marry the man of her dreams, Don M. Nave on Sept. 19, 1953.

They were married for 51 years. Mom and dad were inseparable. They were always together, they were like Siamese twins. You did not see one without seeing the other. There was one exception however, when dad went downtown for coffee in the mornings, mom was just getting her best sleep.

Mom loved her horses, flowers and fruit and vegetable gardens along with the life they built together with their girls.

They had a small Hereford cattle herd along with dry land wheat. In the lean years they drove school bus for Washtucna. They also enjoyed pheasant hunting with their black labs and bowling. Mom’s nickname was “Annie Oakley”, varmints never lasted very long around our farm!

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Ray Sitton Jr. and his wife Jean (Jahr) Sitton. She leaves behind two daughters, Jody Nave and Karen (Byron) Allen, grandchildren Heidi Borgens, Anna (Sean) Kerr and Levi Allen; great grandsons, Brennan, Noah and Oliver Kerr; niece Shawna Sitton and nephew John Ray (Cindy) Sitton III and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at the Washtucna Community Church this Saturday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. followed by a dinner.

Memorial donations can be made out to the Washtucna Community Church in honor of Jeanette Nave.
