Special Election ballot measures

On Feb. 9, a special election will be held in Adams County. Ballots will be sent between the dates of Jan. 20 and Jan. 22 to all active registered voters in the participating precincts.

The last day to register to vote online will be Monday, Jan. 11.

First time voters will be able to register in person until Monday, Feb. 1, at 4:30 p.m. at the Adams County Auditor’s Office. The office is located at 201 West Broadway Avenue, Ritzville.

For each of the proposed levy resolutions for the school districts the rate is assessed on all taxable property within each District.

The Washtucna School District 109-43 has proposed Resolution No. 2015-04.

This resolution outlines a replacement maintenance and operation levy in the amount of $150,000 in 2017 and $150,000 in 2018, which will account for $3.17 per $1,000 assessed value.

The Lind School District 158 has proposed Resolution No. 15/16-03, which is a replacement maintenance and operations levy. A collection of $812,900 will occur in 2017 and in 2018. This will equal a levy rate per $1,000 in assessed value of $3.05.

Ritzville School District 160-67 has two propositions on the special election.

The first is Resolution No. 2015-003, which is a replacement maintenance and operation levy for the years of 2017 and 2018. The amount collected each year will total $1,038,215 at a rate of $3 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Resolution No. 2015-005 outlines a bond to modernize, improve and construct school facilities.

This proposition would authorize the District to modernize Lind-Ritzville High School and to upgrade Ritzville Grade School. Additionally the proposition contains districtwide improvements to technology and to construct a second gym for the school and community use.

This bond will issue no more than $12,800,000 of general obligation bonds maturing within 20 years.

A drop box to place ballots will be available at the Adams County Auditor’s Office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

There are 24-hour secured drop boxes available at Ritzville City Hall located at 216 East Main Street, Washtucna Town Hall at 165 South Main Street and at the Adams County Public Services Building located at 425 East Main Street.
