Some More Stuff

I found out that when you don’t have a single story to write about you need to find several small ones to talk about and I think there are several that can be mentioned this week.

More Stuff 1.) There was good news that came out of Cheney on Monday; Eastern Washington University All American wide receiver Cooper Kupp will receive the Walter Payton award as the NCAA FCS player of the year. Kupp will be returning for his senior year instead of transferring or going pro.

A real class act he cites as one of the reasons getting the opportunity to play another year with his younger brother. Kupp is worth the price of admission and then some.

More Stuff 2.) The last two years former Eagle QB Vernon Adams was the runner up for the prestigious Walter Payton award but Adams decided to do the graduate transfer to Oregon instead of returning to EWU and will be leading the Ducks in to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl game against TCU. This should be a great game.

More Stuff 3.) Speaking of Oregon, once again the Pac 12 School picked off another starting QB from the Big Sky Conference. Montana State QB Dakota Prukop has decided to leave Bozeman for Eugene.

This is another graduate transfer that makes me wonder if the Ducks are even recruiting a QB from the high school ranks since they haven’t developed a replacement for Marcus Mariota. I guess picking off a starter is a safer choice for the Duck program.

I can understand Prukop’s decision. The guy that recruited him and was his coach the last three years was fired and since he needs to learn a new offense anyway he might as well go to a place that does a similar offense to what he has been running with the Bobcats.

Prukop saw what Vernon Adams was able to accomplish in Duckville so why not give it a shot. I can tell you right now Prukop is a better QB than the guys Oregon recruited so look for a guy named Dakota that transferred from a college in Montana to lead Oregon next season.

More Stuff 4.) Odell Beckham Jr. (OBJ) the New York wide receiver that was a human highlight reel because of a one handed catch last year showed that he can be a dirty player on Sunday. Against the Carolina Panthers, OBJ had three personal foul penalties. On Monday he was suspended for one game because of his extra-curricular activities. The worst of it was a helmet to helmet cheap shot against the DB that he was up against all afternoon.

The blatant spearing shot should have gotten him removed from the game on the spot. There is no place for this kind of play in football period. OBJ was a highlight reel on Sunday but not for any good reason. He was a loose cannon who showed a lot of disrespect for the game of football.

More Stuff 5.) The Cleveland Browns and their QB Johnny Manziel came to Seattle on Sunday to face the red hot Seahawks. The Browns have only won three games this season and one of them was earned the week before.

Manziel has had a few issues on and off the field this season and his play has been a bit erratic but on the very first drive on Sunday he guided the Browns on a fifteen play drive that would certainly make Browns fans wonder if he can lead this team and mature at the same time.

I was impressed with the players on the field yesterday as they played the game hard but with respect for the opponent. I saw a few guys help their opponent up and a few pats on the backside that basically said, nice play, dang it! But there was no finger pointing at Manziel or Manziel doing any trash talking. He certainly had Seattle’s full attention and the Seahawk defense stepped it up coming away with a 30-13 victory.

I hope that Manziel learned from watching Russell Wilson how good he can be by working hard and earning playing time and leading by example. The talent in the body is there but the stuff between the ears has sometimes left a lot to be desired. This game could be a catalyst for Cleveland if they are smart. But these are the Cleveland Browns.

So that’s my stuff for this week. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas from the Worst Seat in the House!
