FARM TO SCHOOL

FARM TO SCHOOL. The Lind-Ritzville Middle School Farm to School class, under the direction of Ag Teacher Amanda Klindworth, has received a $2,000 grant from Northwest Farm Credit Services (NWFCS) Community Grant Program. NWFCS donates the grants to projects that give back or improve the community. The students in the class will plant, manage, harvest and process the produce to go into the Lind School District cafeteria meals. In order for the class to apply for the grant they needed to have a sponsor who will support the program to write a letter of recommendation. The sponsor additionally needs to be a Northwest Farm Credit Services employee or customer, they asked Dany Cavadini to be their sponsor. With the grant money the class will buy a rototiller, irrigation supplies, supplies to build a produce washing station and hoop houses and garden supplies such as shovels and gloves. -Journal photo by Rachel Plager
