Lady Broncos end season at Regional Tournament

The 2B Regional Volleyball Tournament took place over the weekend for Districts seven and nine. The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos began the tournament ranked as number four.

Their first match was Wednesday, Nov. 4, versus Tri-Cities Prep. The Lady Broncos fell to Tri-Cities Prep with set scores of 11-25, 10-25 and 22-25.

This match held two kills and 18 digs with eight blocks at the net, which were met by eight serving errors and 18 hitting errors. These errors held the team back in the first two sets.

Head Coach Cari Galbreath stated, “The score didn’t give a true reflection of how the match went. We rallied long and hard but TCP is a very seasoned team that didn’t make mistakes.”

The team then moved to Saturday’s play facing DeSales. The Lady Broncos fought hard against the Lady Irish and came out on top with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, 25-17.

Peyton Curtis put up 16 assists during this match, and the team together had 32 kills. Madison Harder held 12 of these with Tessa Jantz at her heels with 10, these two also held the seven blocks of the match.

The team had 10 aces, with Curtis accounting for four of these. Defensively the team had eight digs and carried 19 hitting errors.

This match carried them to their next opponent of the day, Wilbur-Creston. The ladies began this match strong but were unable to keep their energy up ultimately falling to the Lady Wildcats with set scores of 22-25, 18-25, 9-25.

While the team fought hard with nine aces, 17 kills and two blocks. The team had unforced errors, which brought them down, and they were unable to come back and fight in the last match.

Coach Galbreath said the, “Wilbur-Creston match was intense and we fought. The crowd was loud and we had some great moments but just couldn’t do enough.”

After this loss the ladies moved to the match that decided who would receive fifth place. This game was versus Northwest Christian and the Lady Broncos fell in three sets with scores of 19-25, 13-25, 13-25.

This match lacked intensity for the team with it being their third match of the day. They had one ace and six serving errors. They racked up 16 kills but this was met with 19 hitting errors which was their downfall. Their coach stated that they played tight but they did not play as a team.

Coach Galbreath said, “Though the team had their ups and downs this season, improvement was made and many witnessed that.”
