Kiel to become an Eagle Scout at Nov. 19 ceremony

Peyton Kiel is being honored on Thursday, Nov. 19, for his achievement of earning the Eagle Scout rank.

An Eagle Scout is the highest rank available in Boy Scouting.

According to the scouting website in order to receive this rank one must, “hold 21 merit badges, serve six months in a troop leadership position, plan and give leadership to a service project for any religious organization or any school or community, take part in a Scoutmaster conference and successfully complete an Eagle Scout board of review.”

The community has not had a scout earn this rank in approximately five years.

Only five to seven percent of boys who begin scouting attain this rank.

Additionally, those who earn this rank and choose to enter the military skip a rank due to the amount of hands on training the merit badges give to each person who accomplishes them all.

Kiel will become a part of the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, also known as the Eagle’s Nest, where only Eagle Scouts can participate in the discussion.

This ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 at Legion Hall.
