Many are already familiar with the fight or flight response humans experience to perform better in the face of stress.
However research of adverse effects of stress, especially of chronic stress, on the brain is not as well known. Effects initiated by the fight or flight response, when prolonged with long term stress, can cause many negative effects on the brain and inhibit learning.
The fight or flight response is a biochemical reaction that causes the body’s sympathetic nervous system to release a variety of hormones.
