Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
I am running for Lind Town Council because I want to be a positive influence for our community.
The “Citizens for Positive Progress” sent out a letter which appears to be campaign material from me. I do not know who all these citizens are, did not know about the letter, did not give permission to use my name, and wasn’t even on the mailing list. I was not given the opportunity to stop the mailing or respond to it.
My third-hand copy was given to me just last Friday.
The letter attacks the integrity of the members of the town council in general and Councilwoman Paula Bell in particular.
This letter represents everything that is wrong with American politics. It is especially destructive in our small town where we need to work together to survive and prosper.
Many people in Lind believe Mayor Jamie Schmunk was a party to this letter. She was not! The Mayor saw the letter for the first time Friday when I showed it to her. This assumed association unfairly tarnishes her character and credibility.
I want to apologize to Councilwoman Bell and the other members of the town council, to Mayor Schmunk, and to my neighbors in the Town of Lind.
I am sorry that my desire to serve my community has been turned into a weapon of hate and destruction.
To the “Citizens for Positive Progress”: You have caused much damage to our town. Your irrational attack has diminished the ability of our elected leaders to govern. In fact it diminishes us all.
Personally, you have destroyed my reputation and undermined everything I have worked eight years to accomplish for our community. It is time for you to make yourselves known, take responsibility for your letter and be accountable for the havoc you have caused.
John D. Claypool, Lind
