2015 Wheat Land Communities’ Fair results

The Wheat Land Communities’ Fair Board has submitted the complete fair results for all departments from the 2015 event.

Horse Department

Erika Hennings served as the superintendent of the Horse Department in charge of 28 4-H entries, four FFA entries, 151 open youth entries and 64 adult entries.

In the 4-H division, Katheran Gingrich won fitting and showing Grand Champion, the Elizabeth Hennings Memorial Trophy, western pleasure Grand Champion, western equitation Reserve Champion and trail Grand Champion.

Claire Kessler received awards as the western pleasure Reserve Champion, western equitation Grand Champion and trail Reserve Champion.

Awards in the 4-H Junior Division: Harlee Hennings walky trot Grand Champion. Wes Tracy trail Grand Champion.

In the FFA division: Peyton Curtis was the fitting and showing Grand Champion, western equitation Grand Champion, western pleasure Grand Champion and trail Grand Champion.

Beef Department

The superintendents of the Beef Department were Andy Williams, and Debbie and Randy Kulm. Together, they oversaw eight 4-H entries, nine open youth entries and 18 FFA entries.

For the 4-H beef entries Taylor Kulm received both the Grand and Reserve Champion market steer awards. Kulm also received the Grand Champion for showmanship and Eliza Galbreath received the Reserve Champion award.

In the open youth beef division Alyssa Williams received the Grand Champion for her Junior Heifer and Kale Cordil the reserve.

Alyssa Williams took the Grand Champion award in feeder steer and Zach Klein the reserve. For showmanship Alyssa Williams received the Grand Champion and Zach Klein the reserve.

In the FFA beef division Tara Tellefson receive the Grand Champion for her market steer and TyAnn Tellefson the reserve.

Tara Tellefson received the Grand Champion for her heifer. In the prospect steer category TyAnn Tellefson received the Grand Champion and Taylor Kulm the reserve.

Swine Department

Justin Palmer supervised 14 4-H entries, 30 FFA entries and four open youth entries as superintendent of the Swine Department.

Awards in the 4-H division were: Brooke Koch fitting and showing Grand Champion, and Adam Manke fitting and showing reserve. Blake Esser was awarded the market hog Grand Champion and Brooke Koch received the market hog reserve.

In the FFA division Bryce Esser had the fitting and showing Grand Champion, and Emily Rosen had the fitting and showing reserve. Bryce Esser was also awarded Grand Champion market hog, and Michael Shields received the reserve champion.

Sheep/Goat Department

Nannette Naught over saw 14 4-H, 12 FFA and three open youth sheep entries at the fair this year; she was also in charge of two 4-H, 18 FFA and three open youth goat entries.

In the 4-H division Caden Liberty had the Grand Champion market lamb. Brynne Nelson received Grand Champion in fitting and showing, and Emma Hulett and Merlee Liberty each received the reserve champion.

For FFA Nathan Naught had the Grand and Reserve Champion market lambs.

Nathan Naught received Grand Champion for his ewe lamb and Britte Harder took reserve. Nathan Naught received Grand Champion in fitting and showing and Britte Harder reserve.

For the open youth division, Olivia Robbins, Zoe Galbreath and Aubree Sitton received Grand Champion awards for fitting and showing.

In the 4-H division Bailey Dennis had the Grand Champion market goat and Emma Dennis had the reserve. Ben Dennis and Bailey Dennis took Grand Champion in fitting and showing.

For the FFA division Thomas Rosen had the Grand Champion market goat and took Grand Champion in fitting and showing.

Poultry/Rabbits Department

Janet Manke was in charge of 27 4-H, 18 open youth and five adult entries as the superintendent of the Poultry and Rabbit Department.

Awards were given to Vanessa Keeley for the Grand Champion in fitting and showing for her chicken.

Vanessa Keeley received Grand Champion in fitting and showing for her rabbit and Jaden Wilkes took reserve.

Emma Dennis, Vanessa Keeley and Maeve Korthuis received an award for Best of Breed for their chickens. Vanessa Keeley also took two Best of Breed awards for her rabbits. Case McBride and his rabbit received Best of Show and Best of Breed awards.

Reagan Korthius received a Best of Show award for her chicken. Vanessa Keeley received a Best Opposite Sex award for her rabbit. Vanessa Keeley received a special merit for her chicken’s eggs.

Dog Department

Chrissy Holmes served as the superintendent for the Dog Department where she was in charge of ten open youth and one open adult entries.

Vanessa Keeley received Best of Class award and Cody Vuitenhuimer received Best of Show.

Field Crops

Susan Schafer served as the superintendent of the Field Crops Department overseeing six FFA, seven open youth and 53 adult entries.

In the open youth division Taulla Hollenback won $20 for her Jar and Loaf entry, LienHoa Hollenback received $18, Melanie Sprivey received $16 and Tessa Jantz received $14.

Fritz Coon received first place in Alfalfa Hay King.

Linda Reimer received $10 for her Amber Waves entry in the adult division and Bessie Allen received $7.

For the Jar, Loaf and Sheaf open division Linda Reimer received $20 for her entry.

Lori Williams received $20 for her Jar and Loaf adult entry, Gaynel Gering received $18, Linda Reimer received $16 and Donna Koch received $14.

In the Jar, Loaf and Flour category Linda Reimer won $20 for her entry, Tessa Jantz won $18 and Donna Koch won $16.

Linda Reimer also received a Best of Show award for her Sheaf, Loaf, and Jar entry and a Special merit award for her Amber Waves entry.

Fruits and Vegetables

Trish McRae was the superintendent of the Fruits and Vegetables Department, which had 122 open youth entries and 99 adult entries.

Bob Dew won Best of Show with his field pumpkin.

Taylor Davey won Best of Class with her Hula Girl Creature Feature. Macy Schoesler won Best of Class with her green beans.

Taylor Kulm won a Special Merit award for her Porcelain Doll Pink Pumpkin.

Brooke Hays received a special merit award for her Best Collection of Vegetables entries.

Food Preservation

Stephanie Stokoe served as superintendent of the Canned Foods Department in which there were 39 open youth entries and 117 adult entries.

In the youth division Thomas Hein received a Best of Class award for his peach jam and LienHoa Hollenback received a Best of Show award for her pickles and a Special Merit award for her tarragon vinegar.

Best of Class award winners in the adult division went to Dave Hein for his strawberry rhubarb jam, Marian Endicott for her zucchini relish, Vicky Johnson for her pickled garlic, Pat Evans for her dried apples and Kim Weishaar for her snap beans.

Special Merit awards went to Magen Keeling for her dried tomato and Trish McRae for her blueberry syrup.

Best of Show awards went to Evelyn Braden for her peaches and to Stephanie Coon for her tomatoes.

Baking

Linda Erdman served as the superintendent of the Baking Department, which had four open youth entries and 46 adult entries.

The Baking Queen award went to Loretta Walker and second place went to Katie Manke.

Best of Show winners in the adult division were Kelly Dugger for her Apple Pie and Connor Kellen for his Pear Hand Pie.

Best of Class went to Kelly Dugger also for her Apple Pie, Linda Erdman for her Spiced Peach Bars and Lori Williams for her white bread. Best of Class for the youth division went to Aubree Sitton for her Blondy Brownies.

Special Merit awards for the adult division were given to Trish McRae for her Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies and Katie Manke for her sugar cookies. Special Merit awards in the youth division went to Alyssa Williams for her Oatmeal Chippers and Chloe Hoeft for her Brown Sugar Bumps.

Clothing

Jan Collard served as the superintendent of the Clothing Deprtment, which had two open youth entries and 15 adult entries.

Melanie Spivey won Best of Class in the youth division for her apron.

Best of Show in the adult division went to Donna Koch for her denim Jacket.

Best of Class awards in the adult division went to Nancy McRae for her children’s dress and Rebecca Jenson for both her two-piece outfit and her overskirt/apron.

Machine Stitching

Jan Collard was the superintendent of the Machine Stitching Department with nine youth entries and 57 adult entries.

In the youth division TanAn Hollenback received Best of Show for her Dr. Who Potholders, Mya Adams received a Special Merit award for her Charity Bear and Amos Peterson received Best of Class for his tractor.

In the adult division Best of Class awards went to Darcia Dugger for her Snowman Runner, Donna Koch for her tablemat, Janette Hollenback for her Xnias Stocking and Beverly Cobb for her Take 4 Placemats.

Best of Show went to Claudia Graham for her chevron quilt.

Special Merit awards went to Donna Koch for her pillow, Kim Lantis for her mugrug and Carla Jerue for her full-size bib.

Handiwork

JoRene Zumdahl served as superintendent of the Handiwork Department, which had two youth entries and 53 adult entries.

In the youth division Alyssa Williams won Best of Class for her tea towels.

In the adult division Best of Show went to Claudia Graham for her snowman cross-stitch.

Best of Class awards went to Carol Templin for her candle mats, Shirley Roth for her small afghan and Lavonne Saunders for her lily pad afghan.

Special Merit awards went to Shirley Roth for her large afghan, JoRene Zumdahl received a special merit for her snowman quilt and for her happy harvest wall hanging, Donna Koch for her embroidered pillow, Heide Schell for her garden gate cross-stitch and Diana St. Clair for her cowl.

Quilts

Beverly Cobb was the superintendent of the Quilt Department this year and oversaw 109 adult entries.

The Best of Show award went to Claudia Graham for her entry entitled Kaleidoscope.

The People’s Choice award went to Donna Koch for her Stars Around the Garden entry.

Kim Lantis received the Washington State Quilters Award and received $20 for first place, Donna Koch received second place.

The Best of Show awards were given to Donna Koch for her Stars Around The Garden entry, Claudia Graham for her Kaleidoscope entry, Vera Harto for her Peacock entry, JoRene Zumdahl for her Snowmen entry, Yvonne Anderson for her Tiny Sampler and Forest Rags entries, Darcia Dugger for her Cowboy Quilt entry and Erna Kagele for her Baby Quilt entry.

Special Merit awards were given to Claudia Graham for her Half Square Stars entry, Marge Schoessler for her Gold Rust Black Star entry, Donna Koch for her I Believe entry, Kim Lantis for her Chicken Quilt, Yvonne Anderson for her Baby Boxes entry, Sue Sackmann for her Sliced Charm Runner, Darcia Dugger for her Butterfly entry and Rose Sherrer for her Wall hanging entry.

Plants and Flowers

Karyn Allen and Joyce Preston were the superintendents for the Plants and Flowers Department, which had eight youth entries and 78 adult entries.

In the youth department Cole Melcher received the Best of Show award for his marigold and Tessa Jantz received the Best of Class award for her rose.

Terry Jantz received the Best of Show award in the adult division for his bougainvillea. Best of Class awards for the adult division were awarded to Loretta Walker for her harvest jubilee, Jim Tate for his gladiola and Charlene Hoeft for her houseplant entry. The Best of Sunflower award went to Byron Allen.

Special Merit awards were given to Gaynel Gering for her gladiola, Trish McRae for her sunflower, Irene Rosenoff for her rosebud and Terry Janzen for the gaillardia entry.

Adult Arts and Crafts

John Rankin was the superintendent for the Adult Arts and Crafts department, which included 46 entries.

The Best of Class award was given to Diedre Ranger for her entry Pig, Mary Wilks for her entry Necklace and Tom Strohmaier for his Fish Sculpture.

Tom Strohmaier’s Fish Sculpture also received the Best of Show award.

Youth Arts and Crafts

The superintendent for the Youth Arts and Crafts Department was Tiffany Towne, which included 168 entries.

Best of Class was awarded to Tessa Jantz for her tissue paper collage.

Special Merit awards were given to Jayden Wilks for her copper necklace, Tessa Jantz for her pen/ink entry, Lucas Sitton for his stamped painting and Willow Rountree for her Seed Art Owl.

Photography

Randy and Shirley Roth were the superintendents for the Photography Department, which had 10 youth entries and 105 adult entries.

Best of Show was awarded to Ruth Keeley for her entry titled Forgotten. Best of Class Awards went to Vanessa Keeley for her Flowers photo, Tracy Korthuis for her Reagan photo and Debbie Arlt for her Sunset Windmill entry.

Special Merits were awarded to Morgane Roth for her Fencing photo, Katlyn McBride for her Huggs photo, Connie Lovett for her Ahoy entry, Tiffany Towne for her Peaches entry, Tracy Korthuis for her Grange Hall entry and Vanessa Keeley for her Are We Done Yet entry.

4-H Record Books

Alice Weber was the superintendent of the 4-H Record Books Department, which included 29 4-H entries.

The Best of Show award was given to Harlee Hennings (Junior), Katheran Gingrich (Intermediate) and Taylor Kulm (Senior.)

Special Merits were given to Gus Tracy (Journal), Katheran Gingrich (Project Information), Kallie Harder (Financial Summary) and Blake Esser (Story).

4-H Still Life

Buck and Janette Hollenback and Carla Jerue served as the superintendents for the 4-H Still Life Department, which had 495 entries.

LienHoa Hollenback received Special Merit awards for her 25 entries, she also received a Creative Arts Award. Melanie Spivey received Special Merit awards for her 19 entries and a gift card for her still life entries.

Lucas Smith received three Best of Class awards and four Special Merits. Alysia Phelps received a Special Merit award for her Peppermint Candy entry. Rhianna Coon received a Special Merit for her Peppermint Candy.

Emma Harlett received Best of Show, Best of Class and two Special Merit awards. Caleb Graham received a gift card for his still life entries.

TanAn Hollenback received gift cards for her still life entries and a creative arts award, a first place baking award, eight Special Merits, five Best of Show and 10 Best of Class awards.

Model Kits

Paul McAnally served as the superintendent for the Model Kits Department, which included 56 youth entries.

Best of Show award went to J.P. McAnally for his Battle Force entry.

Best of Class awards went to Cole Melcher for his Truck entry and Judah Peterson for his Green Kramer entry.

Special Merit awards went to Benjamin Clinesmith for his Invasion entry, Jackson Nichols for The Rodeo Injury entry, Jonathon Stromberger for his Police Station entry and Thomas Hein for his Train Station entry.

Spinning and Weaving

Janice Dennis was the superintendent of the Spinning and Weaving Department, which included 22 adult entries.

Karen Dodson won Best of Show for her hand-woven wall hanging.

Best of Class awards went to Karen Dodson for her hand-woven wall hanging, her handspun alpaca yam and her handspun “fingerless mitts.”

Special Merit awards went to Karen Dodson for her handspun silk/alpaca yarn and to Larry Taylor with his quilt with hand-woven top.

Antique Machinery

Beverly Cobb served as the superintendent of the Antique Machinery Department, which had two entries.

Jim Cobb received a Best of Show award for his Calkins Seed Treater. Jim Tate received Best of Class for his Earth Master Tractor. Jim Cobb received two Special Merits for his Delco Power Plant and Lister Power Plant.

Woodworking

Dwight Olson was the superintendent of the Woodworking Department this year in which there were two youth entries and two adult entries.

Benjamin Clinesmith received a Special Merit for a wooden rifle entry and Hayden Melcher received a Special merit for a cross entry.
