Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Voctor and Luba Vozniy have opened Family Choice located at 102 West Main Street in downtown Ritzville.
Family Choice is a dollar and up store with a large stock of items. They have used clothing, kitchen and bathroom household items, some groceries and school supplies, as well as jewelry and souvenirs.
Voctor stated operating a store has been something his wife Luba has wanted for many years. She always knew she wanted it to be a lower priced family store, it was her that came up with the name Family Choice.
At first they wanted to name the business Kid’s Choice but then decided on Family Choice so they could supply items to more people and be able to sell a variety of products.
Voctor and Luba are from Ephrata and it was the storefront that drew their business to Ritzville. They found the store listed on Craigslist and came to view the space.
Luba knew she loved it when she walked in and saw the unique and vintage look of the space.
They made an offer and fortunately it was accepted in August. They have been working to get the store up and running since then. Family Choice opened in September and is enjoying their first few weeks in town.
Items in the store range from $1 to $10, the $10 items are likely to be new clothing items or souvenirs and gift items.
In 2001 Luba and Voctor owned an international market where they sold food and other dollar store type products. They had this business for five years before they sold it.
Luba additionally said she has been working in retail for an extended amount of time.
Voctor stated that, “they want to make the city happy and offer lower prices and different options than other stores might offer.”
They do also accept donations of very gently used clothing. They have a large supply of kid’s clothes and have a large amount of household supplies that recently arrived as well.
They eventually would like to have more new clothing, which is why they request donations to be in excellent condition.
They had a grand opening for the store the first week of October.
Community members are welcome to come stop in and view their inventory. They provide punch cards as well, every time an individual spends $25, they receive a punch for the card.
Once the card is full, individuals receive 25 percent off the next purchase.
They are thinking about lowering the amount on the card to $15 as well.
The couple is still working on moving to Ritzville. They have looked at a few houses but are waiting until they find the right one for their family.
They have three children moving with them and want to make sure they are able to help select the house before it is purchased.
For now they are commuting to the store.
Until then Family Choice is open and running Monday through Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday they close at 5 p.m. and the other days they close at 6 p.m.
