Proposal made to close the John Wayne Trail

As many community members may have heard, a portion of the John Wayne Trail was almost closed.

This year the state representatives from the 9th district attempted to close a 130-mile-long section of the trail east of the Columbia River. This was put into the state’s 2015 capital budget but was later nullified due to a typo.

The line was supposed to read a closure from “the Columbia River to Malden”, instead it read from “the Columbia River to the Columbia River.”

The portion of the trail that was almost closed runs through Adams County and happens to reside on some local landowner’s property....
