The Lind Fire Department responded to a house engulfed in flames at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Lind Fire Chief Kevin Starring reported the vacant house had flames coming out of the second story by the time fire crews arrived on scene.
The department emptied the fire station, bringing brush trucks and city trucks to the scene to monitor the blaze.
Due to the progress of the fire by the time of arrival, and because of the knowledge the house was vacant, the crews allowed the flames to consume the roof of the house. The building eventually collapsed and crews contained the blaze.
Starring said the fire department remained at the scene for seven hours, and returned the next day to monitor hot spots.
Due to the suspicious circumstances of the fire, Starring contacted the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy responded and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Starring said no power had been running into the house, and how quickly the fire spread led him to believe it was arson.
He is asking any individual who many have witnessed something in the area of the fire, located near Third and I Street, to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
Starring also encouraged Lind residents to be attentive to any suspicious activity within the town.
If residents observe something they perceive as out of the ordinary, he advises them to immediate call the Sheriff’s Department.
