Semi truck collision claims the life of one

Inattention proved to be the cause of a semi truck versus car collision on Westbound 1-90 on July 22, which claimed the life of one driver. The collision occurred at 10:45 p.m. 17 miles east of Ritzville.

According to the Washington State Patrol report, Florida driver Kenneth Kautto, 67, had been traveling westbound on I-90 at a slow rate, when William Oblak, 35, struck Kautto’s vehicle from behind in a Kenworth semi.

Kautto had been traveling in a 2014 Nissan four-door.

Both drivers had been wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. The WSP report said drugs or alcohol were not involved...
