Janice Goodman, 63, died on the evening of July 16.
She began her life in Spokane as the older of two children born to Gerald and Catherine (Gilchrist) McCaffery. The family lived in Davenport, before moving to Ritzville, where Janice and her younger brother Michael spent most of their youth.
With her engaging personality and infectious laugh it was apparent early on that Janice was destined for the spotlight.
Even as a young girl of 7 she charmed those around her with her talent in dancing, ballet, and baton twirling, and earned a spot on “Starlit Stairway” as a member of “Suzie Q’s.”
Janice was later crowned Miss Ritzville in 1969 and went on to graduate from Ritzville High School in 1970. Shortly after graduating Janice moved to Spokane and attended Kinman Business University where she studied to become an electroencephalogram or EEG Tech.
This path led Janice to Wenatchee where she transitioned from an EEG Tech to a medical transcriptionist which resulted in a rewarding career of 37 years.
Janice was married to Richard (Dick) Goodman on January 5, 1985, and spent a rich and full life doing what she loved.
Janice and Dick spent the early years of their marriage exploring Washington and riding their tandem bicycle through little towns on the coast.
Between 1996 and 2004 she ran the Inn Above the Lake in Lake Chelan. Janice’s welcoming and hospitable nature made her the perfect hostess. She relished meeting and conversing with new guests from all over the world, and was even more overjoyed when those guests became repeat visitors.
Janice always had an eye for decorating, so whether visiting during the holiday season, or on St. Patrick’s Day, you would be welcomed into a home adorned door to door with festive decorations and plenty of tasty treats.
In 2005 the Goodman’s moved to Wenatchee to be closer to children and grandchildren.
As a mother and grandmother, Janice was an avid sports and recital attender and a number one fan to many.
Through time spent supporting her family, volunteering at church, participating in knitting groups, and book clubs, Janice poured into the lives of loved ones and built lasting relationships. Some of those close friendships resulted in weekly lunch dates that lasted through the ages.
Janice consistently gave of herself and expected nothing in return other than the company and conversation she loved so much.
Janice Goodman is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Richard N. Goodman of Wenatchee; her mother, Catherine McCaffery of Spokane; her daughter, Janelle Carlson of Wenatchee; her son, Jeff and his wife Megan Carlson of Cashmere; her brother, Mike and wife Colleen McCaffery of Spokane; her two step-sons, Tim and wife Stacy Goodman of Issaquah; and Jon and wife Cathy Goodman of Redmond; her step-daughter Jan Hamblen of Marysville, WA; her 4 grand-children: Darius, Daeja, Mac, and Ryder; her 11 step-grandchildren: Matthew, Amber, Drew, Jessica, Kelsey, Nathan, James, Scotty, Colin, Alex, and Meili; 10 step-great grandchildren; and her three nieces Kelly McCaffery, Kimber Hunter and Kasey Griffith.
