Daniel Kenneth Smick

Daniel Kenneth Smick, 25, of Spokane died June 12.

Daniel was born on November 5,1989 in Pullman, to Kenneth & Cathy (Roth) Smick. He was raised in Pullman and attended Pullman High School. His family moved to Spokane during his junior year of high school and he then graduated from Mead High School in 2008. After graduation, Daniel worked various jobs before being hired by Spokane ProCare as a landscaper, a position he still held at the time of his death.

Whether it was running his lawn care business in Pullman during his teen years or putting countless hours into buying, fixing and “flipping” project cars for a small profit, Daniel will be remembered for his strong work ethic and never being afraid to get his hands dirty. Daniel’s love of cars cannot be understated. Ever since he was a young boy, cars and auto mechanics were his passion. His pride and joy was his 1994 Honda Prelude, a car that he cared for meticulously.

Daniel will be remembered by his family as a loving son, uncle, brother and cousin who was always happy and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was very personable and had a way of putting people at ease. He was described as an “all around good kid” by those who knew him best. Daniel believed in Jesus Christ and his family takes comfort in knowing that Daniel is now in Heaven.

Daniel is survived by his parents Ken & Cathy Smick of Spokane; sister Kendal (Tom) Curtis of Spokane; nieces Raelynn & Maleah Curtis of Spokane; grandmother Sylvia Smick of Colfax; uncles Glenn (Susan LaLonde) Smick of Arizona, Lanny (Cathy) Roth of San Diego and Randy (Shirley) Roth of Ritzville; aunts Carol (David) Gordon of Walla Walla and Annette (Pat) Smith of Troy; as well as a great uncle, Robert (Flora) Smick of Spokane and great aunt Susan Bohm- Schmick of Pullman. He is also survived by many cousins and friends.

Memorial contributions in Daniel’s honor are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, 315 W. Mission, Spokane, WA 99201. Daniel was diagnosed as a child with Type I diabetes and the ADA was very helpful in the resources offered to Daniel and his parents for proper management of his blood sugar.

Private family services have been held. A public memorial service will be announced at a later date.
