Vera Adeline (Smith) Nissen, 94, died on Tuesday May 12, in Kirkland, Washington.
Vera was the last surviving child of twelve children born to Warren and Marie (Siegel) Smith. She graduated from Lind High School in 1937 and subsequently moved to Spokane to continue her education. She went on to become the secretary to the president of the Inland Empire Biscuit Company in Spokane and later moved to Ritzville, where she joined the office staff of the Ritzville schools.
Vera and Robert W. Nissen were married in 1953 and eventually located to the family farm in Lind. The couple had two children, Robbin and David. Bob and Vera later purchased the William A. Nissen farm in
Ralston and farmed both properties until they moved to Spokane in 1983. Bob and Vera moved to Bellevue, in late 2009.
Vera and Robert were married for 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, who passed away in June 2014.
She is survived by her children David Nissen of Lake Oswego, Oregon and Robbin (Nissen) Schill of Bellevue, and her 2 grandsons in Littleton, Colorado, Bryan Bowes and Hunter Bowes.
Vera had a deep rooted faith and was very active in the faith of Jehovah’s Witnesses for most of her adult life. Vera was loved by her immediate and extended family. She will be greatly missed by everyone that she touched in life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
A remembrance service for both Vera and Robert’s attended by family and friends was conducted in Spokane on May 31.
