The Lady Broncos traveled to Spokane for their last regional doubleheader at Merkel Field at the end of May.
With the overall record for the season at 10-13, Head Coach Todd O’Brien stated he was very proud and happy with the turnout and the Lady Broncos, proving his belief that they played better than the record led to believe.
During the first game against Northwest Christian, the Lady Broncos played very well through the game up until the last inning where NWC pulled through to win 9-2.
Jana Mattox pitched the majority of the game until a line drive to her pitching knee forced coaches to substitute Emma Aldrich.
After the loss, the Lady Broncos played a loser-out ball game against Springdale. Being the fourth time playing the team, the Lady Broncos jumped ahead with confidence and aggression.
They played well and had their heads in the game, until they lost steam and Springdale was able to jump back for the win 14-2.
Overall O’Brien was very proud of the team and happy they were able to have the experience of Regionals.
The senior players, Mattox, Sara Aldrich and Kim Gimmaka continued to play strong and aggressive with kudos from O’Brien.
Out of the season’s 191 hits, the three senior players hit 92 with the team average for batting at 320 percent. O’Brien stated replacing the three senior athletes will be difficult in the upcoming season, but he is confident in the improvement of the younger players.
An awards ceremony held at the softball field Wednesday, June 3, brought the Lady Broncos together for one more day of fun on the field, awards and appreciation of the hard-working team and food for team and family members.
Coaches wish the senior athletes the best of luck on their future endeavors and look forward to the next season of the Lady Broncos softball.
