Ten Bronco athletes qualify for state track

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos track and field team traveled to Central Valley High School in Spokane on Friday, May 22, to compete in the 1B/2B District 7/9 Championships.

The team had 15 athletes compete, and 10 qualified for state.

The 10 athletes now move on to compete at Eastern Washington University in the state contest on May 29-30.

The LRS girls earned second place in the championships, with a total of 96 points. The boys tied with Wilbur-Creston for ninth place with 32 points.

For the girls, Kate Schell qualified in four events to compete at the state level. She is competing in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints, as well as the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays.

Joining her sister, Rachel Schell qualified to compete in four events as well. Her events include the 100-meter, 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400.

Felicia Ziemer qualified for state in the 800-meter, as well as the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays.

Individually, Tracy Melville qualified for three state events: 800, 1600 and 3200-meter races. She is also competing in the 4x400 relay.

Heidi Hennings is making a return trip to state in pole vault this year, and also as a member of the 4x400 relay team.

Holly Nygren has qualified for state as a participant in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

Samantha Asmussen is also moving on to state as a member of the 4x100 relay team.

Kallie Harder has also earned the right to compete at state for the LRS girls by earning first place in discus at the championship meet.

On the boys’ side, Alan Field is making a return trip to state. Field qualified in all four of his personal events: 100, 200, 300 hurdles and long jump.

Peyton Kiel has qualified for state in the pole vault competition.
