Ritzville women golfing season in 2015

On a lovely, warm, no-jacket-needed Spring afternoon a couple of weeks ago, we ladies of the Ritzville Women’s Golf Group gathered for our 2015 kickoff. Or sip-off, as it were. We didn’t actually play golf at the kickoff, instead we enjoyed a few bottles of vino, nibbled hors d’oeuvres, caught up on all the vital social news concerning our group, and made essential decisions regarding this year’s assemblage.

Most of the loyal players were present, although we did miss a few who were unable to join us in person. We knew they were there in spirit. We welcomed two new attendees who are eager to begin our famous morning soirees.

We made our most important decisions early since we were imbibing, and one of the more important was on what Monday we would begin the weekly morning gatherings for which our group is legendary. We considered the early warm Spring weather we had enjoyed for several weeks, and decided the Monday following Easter Sunday would be opportune.

Imagine my dismay when I arose that morning, vigorously threw wide the drapes, and there before me was a near blizzard. We had survived the winter only to be confronted with a freak snow storm on that first day of ladies’ golf.

Most of the carts we use do not have heaters, and some don’t have canvas doors. Playing would have been akin to participating barefoot in the Iditerod. Hypothermia would replace birdies and bogies. Life just isn’t fair sometimes.

Accordingly, nobody played. Even Patty and I opted out and we aren’t daunted by cold temperatures, or for that matter much of anything else where golf is concerned.

Be assured that one Monday morning very soon, when the temperatures are more accommodating and no precipitation evident, our group will gather to begin a productive season.

Monday course fees are reasonable: $10 to play all day no matter how many holes (no fees with an annual pass), $20 to rent a cart, 50 cents for the kitty, and a few dollars for any who are interested in joining us for lunch or a reviving iced tea at the Fairway Café.

Everything is yummy at the Fairway Café.

We will have one-hour lessons available for several weeks beginning May 7 at 5:30 p.m.

A golf pro from Moses Lake will work with us. We are excited about this opportunity to break bad habits, apply some pro tips, and improve our games.

Our cost is $200 flat fee per week, and that amount will be divided equally among participants.

So the more who join in, the more affordable the lessons. You probably won’t find another opportunity like this one again soon.

We encourage any of you who want to play no matter your level of expertise (the word is rarely applied to my delusional efforts), enjoy some exercise, improve your game, soak up Vitamin D, interact with some of the most fun and engaging women in Adams County, work on your tan, and laugh, laugh, laugh, to come to the Ritzville Golf Course on the next tolerably nice Monday at 9:45 a.m. and join us as we tee off at 10.

You need not have a cart, coordinated outfit, or even wear makeup. You need only to arrive with a smile and the desire to have fun and play golf.

So join us. We are looking forward to enjoying our Monday golf experience this summer with you.
