With the official opening of the Ritzville Golf Course on Monday, March 16, golfers and residents also had the opportunity to eat at the reopened Fairway Café.
The restaurant is currently under the management of Jessika Wolf and her sister Jaime Decaney-Gorman.
Wolf explained the opportunity presented itself when Mayor Linda Kadlec inquired if the duo would have any interest in running the business for the city.
After discussing the potential new venture with their family, Wolf decided to take the helm and run the new business with her sister stepping in to assist.
Wolf and Decaney-Gorman’s family owns and operates Memories Diner in downtown Ritzville. Wolf has been involved with the restaurant business prior to the local business, and is excited to have the opportunity to continue serving Ritzville patrons.
In preparation for the grand opening, the managers worked on creating a menu that served both the local and visiting cliental. They created a mix of menu items to bring diversity but still focus on serving quality food to patrons.
Fairway Café is open for both breakfast and lunch. The breakfast menu items include family favorites like biscuits and gravy, but also a variety of quiches.
Wolf said the majority of the lunch menu focuses on specialty sandwiches and follows a more café type menu style. Among the highlighted options of the menu are burgers, salads and pita pockets.
Aside from the list of regular menu items, the Fairway Café will also remain open on Friday nights to provide an additional meal option for locals. The dish changes on a weekly basis, but provides patrons with a hearty dish sure to satisfy any appetite.
While Wolf is the primary full time manager of the restaurant, Decaney-Gorman is at the business on a daily basis, but she is continuing to work at Memories Diner as well. Wolf said when the golf season picks up and patrons are more continuous, the restaurant will look into hiring more employees.
Wolf said she has always enjoyed working in the restaurant business and she is looking forward to seeing how the new venture plays out for her and her sister.
“I love the people and cooking,” Wolf said about the best part of the business. “I love the people here; they’re characters.”
Patrons of the Fairway Café can also receive a punch card after purchasing a meal at $10. The completed punch cards are entered into a drawing where individuals have the opportunity to win $25 in Chamber Bucks, $40 in movie coupons for the Ritz Theatre, a 2016 golf pass or a $200 Visa gift card.
Currently, the Fairway Café is donating a portion of the daily sales to Gabe’s Avengers. Gabe Tesch is Decaney-Gorman’s 11-year-old nephew who is currently battling a rare form of brain cancer.
Wolf explained they are also collecting donations for an auction in April to help raise more money for his treatment. Donation jars are also located around town at businesses to help support the cause.
The Fairway Café is open from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday through Thursday. The restaurant is open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday.
