Ritzville High School graduate Courtney Geschke has stepped in to fill the vacancy of reporter for The Ritzville Journal.
Geschke graduated from RHS in 2007 and moved on to attend Spokane Community College (SCC).
During both her time in Ritzville and in Spokane, Geschke stayed busy working full time jobs while pursuing her goal of becoming a writer.
She attended SCC off and on for three years while determining exactly what career path to follow.
Geschke found she enjoyed her publications and creative writing classes the most, and has been looking to start her career in the journalism and communications field.
During her time in college and while working through a variety of public service and retail jobs, Geschke said she slowly began to build her confidence with the goal of following her dreams.
After always returning to the Spokane area, Geschke began to focus on her future.
“I finally went back to being myself and finding out what I’m passionate about and what I wanted to do,” Geschke said.
When she found out about the job opportunity at The Journal, Geschke said she decided to overcome her initial fears and apply for the position in order to start building her writing career.
“I really like writing, I thought I would always do it for the rest of my life,” she said.
“I’m scared to get back into it a little, but I’m really excited.”
“I don’t know where it’s going to take me, but I feel like I have a really bright future now,” Geschke continued.
As the main reporter for The Journal, Geschke will attend government meetings, school functions and write feature stories about businesses, organizations and individuals.
“I’m excited to go to council meetings and see what’s going on in the community,” Geschke said. “I feel like I’m going to learn a lot, and I really like to learn.”
She is currently focusing on strengthening her vocabulary and learning about current activities ongoing in the community. Geschke will also be developing her photography skills to assist with photo assignments at the newspaper.
Along with her previous experience of writing for The Journal in high school, Geschke also brings enthusiasm and energy to the newspaper.
She is looking forward to channeling her energy to helping produce articles for the newspaper and continuing to meet people throughout the communities The Journal serves.
Geschke is excited to begin her work as a full-time reporter and continue to be a part of her hometown community.
Geschke can be contacted at 659-1020 or by email at [email protected].
