The annual Distinguished Young Woman program is rolling into Ritzville once again, bound to take place on March 20 starting at 7 p.m.
Three junior girls are participating in the program and competing for the title this year.
The event is being held in a new location: at the Ritz Theatre.
Presale tickets are currently available for $5, or can be bought at the door for $6 the night of the event.
Tickets can be purchased from Stacey Schoessler at Northwest Farm Credit, Jan Marshall at Ritzville City Hall, or from any contestant.
This year’s contestants are Holly Nygren, Samantha Asmussen and Hallie Jo Galbreath.
Samantha Asmussen
Samantha Asmussen is the daughter of Michelle Asmussen and David McCormick.
Her involvement in the community and high school includes being a part of the service oriented We-Lind/Ritzville Club, serving on the Yearbook staff, and playing the flute for the pep band. She has been a member of the cheer squad and track team as well.
Samantha has been awarded varsity letters in both cheerleading and track, along with being on the Honor Roll for all three years of her high school career.
She has offered her services by volunteering at the local food bank and Relay For Life.
Samantha has a love for animals, music, and camping. Her favorite book is “A Child Called It” by Dave Pelzer and she loves the movie The Wizard of Oz.
Samantha likes to listen to the musician Sam Smith, and her favorite play is Romeo and Juliet.
Samantha’s plans after high school include attending Washington State University and becoming a veterinarian or a vet technician.
