With two wins under their belt this season, the Lady Tigercats have one more opportunity to earn a win when they face Garfield-Palouse in the final league game this week.
The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus team had two tough outings last week, matching up against St. John-Endicott before hosting Liberty Christian.
The Lady Tigercats struggled on Friday night to contain SJE athlete Sierra McCanna who scored a season high of 22 points for the Lady Eagles. McCanna scored 12 points in the first quarter, helping boost SJE to an early 19-4 lead over the Lady Tigercats.
The LWK rallied in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Eagles 10-7 and bring the score to 26-14 at halftime.
The Lady Eagles had a big third quarter, which boosted their lead and the Lady Tigercats would be unable to close the scoring gap. SJE won the game with a final score of 45-28.
Eighth grade athlete Alynn Harder had a season-high scoring game and led the team with 10 points. Jessica Guske added seven points for the Lady Tigercats while Jazzmyn Gordon had four points. Nicole Harder scored three points, and Jazlynn Webb and Logan Stanley each scored two points.
On Saturday night the Lady Tigercats hosted Liberty Christian in Washtucna. The Lady Patriots earned the league win with a 45-19 advantage over the Lady Tigercats.
The Lady Tigercats put points on the board first in the game with a pair of three-point shots. The game quickly went in favor of the Lady Patriots, led by Karlee Souve with 22 points, and they held LWK to a max of six points a quarter.
With a high foul count for both teams in the second half, each team had opportunities to convert free throws to points.
The Lady Tigercats struggled from the line, hitting 3 of 11 free throw attempts on Saturday. Liberty Christian was 7 of 15 from the line.
Gordon led the Lady Tigercats in scoring with seven points, followed by Guske with six points. Webb added four points. Alynn Harder and Stanley each sank one free throw.
The Lady Tigercats faced Oakesdale on Tuesday night and now prepare to battle against Garfield-Palouse in the final league game of the season. The weekend game will bring the Lady Tigercats’ season to a close and serves as the last opportunity for the team to earn a final win to add to their record this year.
