Lady T-cats’ season concludes Saturday in Washtucna

The Lady Tigercats’ season is coming to a close as the team prepares for the final two league games. After a long and hard fought season, the Lady Tigercats are looking to add one more notch to the win category before the season concludes this weekend.

The LWK team went on the road on Jan. 23 to face the Touchet Lady Indians and returned home with a 77-31 loss.

The Lady Tigercats came out strong in the first quarter, limiting Touchet’s looks at the basket and putting up 13 points, with the majority being scored by freshman Jazzmyn Gordon. The Lady Tigercats trailed by six points at the end of the first quarter, but Touchet quickly jumped out to a substantial lead.

In the second quarter, Touchet’s Sierra McKeown hit three 3-pointers to help the Lady Indians increase the scoring difference. The Lady Tigercats struggled to put points on the board in the second quarter, and trailed Touchet 15-42 at the half.

With Gordon’s early first half success, the Lady Indians applied more defensive pressure to eliminate any open looks at the hoop. After scoring 11 points in the first quarter, Gordon only scored two additional points during the match up.

The Lady Tigercats also had a difficult time containing McKeown, who is the Lady Indians’ leading scorer. In the game, McKeown singlehandedly scored 27 points to add to Touchet’s growing lead.

Gordon led the Lady Tigercats in scoring with 15 points, followed by Nicole Harder with eight points. Jazlynn Webb scored four points. Alynn Harder and Jessica Guske each added two points.

On Saturday the Lady Tigercats hosted Pomeroy in LaCrosse, and suffered a 47-14 loss to the Lady Pirates.

The game started out slow for the Lady Tigercats who struggled to get the offense set up with enough time to get a solid look at the hoop. The Lady Pirates applied full court pressure throughout the first quarter, and the additional defensive pressure caused problems for the Lady Tigercats.

While the team was able to break the press, the Lady Tigercats did not have much time left on the shot clock in order to get in the offensive set up. This caused hurried looks at the hoop and eventually prevented the Lady Tigercats from earning any first quarter points.

The second quarter the Lady Tigercats began to fight back, using the opportunity to set up the defense and start ball movement to keep Pomeroy moving. The first points in the game came from a 3-pointer by Webb, and helped move the Lady Tigercats into a 25-5 point difference at half.

The team performed better defensively in the second half, but still struggled to convert on offense. The Lady Tigercats only earned a single point in the third quarter, and were outscored 7-22 by Pomeroy in the second half.

Gordon led the Lady Tigercats with six points, and Webb had three points. Guske and Brittany Gordon each scored two points. Nicole Harder had one point.
